Things are changing...
Jeff fished up chemo about a month ago. Since then he has been running a low-grade fever that seems to be getting worse. Last week they doubled his pain meds and his pain seems to be under control for the most part. The surgeon and the oncologist seem to agree that there is probably some sort of an infection causing this. He has been on antibiotics for about 3 weeks now and doesn't seem to be getting better. His last CT scans did not show any cancer! We were excited.
Jeff was admitted into the hospital (LMH) today. He is now very weak and does not have too much energy. His appetite has dropped off despite his positive CT scan results. The plan is to give Jeff IV antibiotics for a few days in the hospital. If the antibiotics make him feel better then he will probably be on oral antibiotics when he returns home. They are not for sure what is infected. They just plan to give some broad spectrum antibiotics.
The oncologist said it is not likely that the infection, whatever it is, would be eradicated. The goal is just to keep the infection at bay. We are looking into home hospice care for when Jeff gets home. With his fevers and decrease in energy it will be helpful to have a set of medical eyes that come into the house to check on him and give him the medicines that he needs.
I am not for sure when Jeff will be released, but if the antibiotics are working we should see a difference in 48 to 72 hours. They are also completing an MRI on his head as Jeff has been experiencing disorientation and constant headaches. I am not for sure when to expect the results, but I will post them here as soon as I can.
I think that sums if up for now. If everything goes well I won't need to do another post for another 3 months. Everybody take care.
