Chemo Update

Jeff was cleared by his surgeon and infectious disease doctor to start chemo tomorrow. He has been getting IV antibiotics everyday this week since he still has an open wound. He does not have an infection, but to prevent one they started him on them. Today was the last day.
The oncologist is going to run some blood work as Jeff's red blood cell count has been low. He is somewhat low on iron, but they want to double check to make sure his count would not be too low to start tomorrow. He will get an injection to help increase his red blood cell production tomorrow also.
Jeff had a sonogram Friday to make sure his urine flow is fine since the stint removal. The urologist should have the results for us tomorrow. We will start chemo at 8:30 am and should be there most of the day.
The surgeon has decided to send Jeff to the wound clinic. It is important Jeff does not get an infection because of the mesh that was used to fix his hernia. The mesh is exposed and if he get an infection that could mean surgery and could put a stop to the chemo treatments.
Jeff's chemo regiment will be every two weeks for six months. He will receive a treatment every other Monday and will wear a pump for 46 hours. Jeff's tumor tested positive for the protein so they will be using a new drug with his FOLFIRI chemo regiment! The drug bonds to the protein the helps the cancer spread.
