Surgery is in the Future

We have hit some bumps in the road with Jeff's continued chemo treatment. Jeff just completed cycle five of his 12 cycle chemo regiment. He still has an open wound from the surgery in June and the mesh from the hernia repair is still exposed. He has a pocket of fluid that has developed and according to the most recent CT is getting larger. Additionally his CT showed that his right kidney is increasing in size. It is not clear as to why the kidney is getting larger, but the urologist (Dr. Heeb) seems mildly concerned. He thinks Jeff might need to have a stint put in, but we are against that at this point as the last stint Jeff had was so painful for him.
We consulted with a surgeon yesterday and it has been determined that Jeff cannot wait until his chemo is done to have surgery. He is tentatively on the schedule to have surgery the 21st, but might be bumped out to the 28th. The surgeon wants to consult with the oncologist and urologist once again and we will finalize the date and time of the surgery on the 18th.
The concern to the surgeon is the fluid and the exposed mesh. The surgeon said that delaying the surgery would put Jeff at a greater risk for infection or even septic shock. I will update everyone when we know more about his surgery date and time. He will be having the surgery done again at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
